Chateau-Animaux
hosts regular dog and
cat adoptions in
Washington, DC --
Each week Chateau-Animaux is pleased to host dog and cat adoptions at our retail store on Capitol Hill, in Washington, DC. (See our
Calendar of Events for dates and times).
According to
the Humane Society of the United States, approximately 6-8 million cats
and dogs enter shelters each year, and approximately 3-4 million are
euthanized. That's why Chateau-Animaux has always been
committed to helping find good homes for companion animals.
We work with several groups on an ongoing basis,
Capital Cats,
the Washington
Humane Society, and Homeward
Trails Animal Rescue. We have also hosted adoptions with the Washington Animal Rescue League and
have held adoption information days for many breed rescue groups, such as Maine Coon Cat Rescue, Greyhound
rescue, Dalmatian rescue, the House Rabbit Society and others.
Chateau-Animaux offers a ten percent (10%) in-store discount
on all purchases made by anyone adopting a dog or cat through its
adoptions programs on the day of the adoption.
In addition to our
working with local pet
adoption groups we
have designed our
Chateau-Animaux
Affiliate Program to
provide additional
funds for non-profit
animal-related groups,
including shelters,
rescue and breed
groups. Click

Cats
Capital Cats is an all-volunteer group that is committed to finding
homes for the feline population on Capitol Hill. They actively
trap, spay and neuter street cats, and foster them in their homes until
new homes can be found. Since they are fostering the cats in their
homes, they know their unique personalities and are able to place them
in appropriate environments.
Many of Capital Cats' volunteers also volunteer at area shelters and
rescue groups, including the Washington, DC Animal Shelter.
Cat adoptions
are held nearly every Sunday at Chateau-Animaux.
The group follows standard adoptions procedures: the potential adopter
completes an application, a home check is completed and a donation is
requested upon approval. See photos and descriptions at: www.capitalcats.petfinder.com,
www.homealone.petfinder.com. Homeward
Trails Animal Rescue
Homeward
Trails Animal Rescue
is a non-profit animal
rescue organization
based in Arlington,
Virginia, which
rescues dogs, cats and
small animals from
rural, mostly lower-
income shelters in
Virginia, West
Virginia, North
Carolina and as far
away as Georgia.
Sadly, without their
help, most of these
adoptable animals
would face almost
certain euthanasia --
usually within days or
hours of our rescuing
them. Each year they
take in hundreds of
wonderful animals who
were left at shelters
by no fault of their
own.
The
Washington Humane
Society
The Washington
Humane Society
("WHS")
"protects animals
and serves the
community through a
wide variety of
programs. While the
heart of [its] mission
remains rescuing
animals in trouble and
finding them good,
permanent homes, [it]
also focuses on
preventing suffering
through education,
spay/neuter campaigns
and diligently
enforcing the
District's
anti-cruelty laws."
WHS
typically brings its
mobile adoption van to
Chateau-Animaux on the
Second Saturday of
every month.
